The Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy has released a Whitepaper for blockchain development and has identified 21 Nigerian researchers that will shape the policy.

The whitepaper seen by THE WHISTLER detailed efforts to develop a holistic National Blockchain Policy.

The whitepaper released by the FMCDE said the national policy is required because blockchain technology could drive significant advances in several areas like financial inclusion, supply chain transparency and digital identity.

The document stated that the goal is to ensure that Nigeria remains at the forefront of blockchain innovation while addressing unique challenges and opportunities in the Nigerian context.

To achieve this, the government hopes to use Nigerian blockchain researchers across the globe to achieve a homegrown solution.

“From the 42 names identified, 21 researchers were confirmed to be Nigerian based on additional checks of names, affiliations, and contextual information,” the white paper revealed.

The researchers include Abiola Salau; Abraham Ayegba Alfa; Ahmad Sani Bello; Augustine Ikpehai; Buhari Ugbede Umar; Chinwe Ifejika Speranza; Chuka Oham; Emmanuel Abidemi Adeniyi;
Eustace Manayi Dogo; Femi Emmanuel Ayo and Ishaya Gambo.

Others are Isioma Maureen Chiluwa; Ismail Adelopo; Jacob Abegunde; Joseph Bamidele Awotunde; Jumoke Popoola; Odunayo Olowookere; Olayemi Mikail Olaniyi; Olusogo Popoola; Roseline Oluwaseun Ogundokun and Timilehin Ogundare.

The Minister of Communications, Bosun Tijani in a separate post said the policy aims to provide a structured, inclusive, and forward-looking framework for Blockchain adoption in Nigeria.

He said, “The inclusive approach ensures that Nigeria’s Blockchain policy is not only technically sound, but also locally relevant, with broad-based support that reflects the realities and aspirations of our nation.

“Through this collaborative process, we aim to facilitate comprehensive policy development, promote public trust and awareness, and spark innovation that leads to real-world solutions.”
