FG Reveals 15 States Likely To Experience Flooding

The National Flood Early Warning Centre under the Federal Ministry of Environment’s Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management Department has issued a flood prediction for several locations across Nigeria.

According to the warning issued by the Director of Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, from August 10 to August 14, 2025, heavy rainfall is likely to lead to flooding in various areas across 15 states.

In Adamawa State, the locations likely to be affected include Jimeta, Mubi, Mayo-Belwa, Wuro-Bokki, Yola, and Farkumo. Bauchi State includes Jama’a. Nasarawa State includes Keffi. Kaduna State includes Jaji, Kafanchan, Zaria, and Birnin-Gwari.

Katsina State includes Katsina, Bindawa, and Kaita.

Kebbi State includes Kamba, Kangiwa, Kalgo, Ribah, Sakaba, Saminaka, Gwandu, Jega, Bunza, Birnin Kebbi, Bagudo, and Argungu.

In other states, locations include Kano State with Bebeji, Gwarzo, Karaye, Sumaila, and Tundun Wada, Niger State includes Rijau, Ibi, Chanchaga, Magama, Mashegu, Minna, Mokwa, New-Bussa, Sarkin Pawa, and Wushishi, while Taraba State has only Duchi predicted to experience flooding.

Jigawa State includes Miga, Ringim, Hadejia, and Dutse. Yobe State includes Potiskum, Dapchi, Gasma, Gashua, and Jakusko, Zamfara State includes Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi, Bungudu, and Gusau and Sokoto State includes Sokoto, Gagawa, Gada, Goronyo, Isa, Wamakko, Silame, and Makira.

Borno State has Bama as a likely location for flooding, while Kwara State has Jebba.

The ministry advised relevant stakeholders to take note of the prediction and take precautions.

The Centre also called for feedback from stakeholders and state government representatives.

“Feedback from the relevant stakeholders and State Government representatives on this platform will be highly appreciated,” it said.
