Ekiti 2026: Fayose slams Gov Oyebanji, vows to defeat APC

A governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State, Emmanuel Fayose, has criticised the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, expressing confidence in unseating him in the forthcoming 2026 gubernatorial election.

Fayose made these remarks during a familiarisation tour of Ado and Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Areas on Saturday. He accused Governor Oyebanji, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, of mismanaging the state’s resources and focusing on political endorsements rather than governance.

He alleged that despite increased federal allocations to the state, Ekiti was grappling with economic hardship, underdevelopment, and lack of infrastructural progress.

“The question Ekiti people should continue to ask is what Governor Oyebanji has been doing with the monthly allocations to the state. This administration has not met the expectations of the people.

“There is widespread hunger and poverty. The allocation from the Federal Government is nearly four times what it used to be, yet there’s little to show for it,” Fayose stated.

He further criticised the ongoing endorsements for the governor’s second term, describing them as political theatrics intended to manipulate public opinion.

“These endorsements are nothing more than empty political displays. They will not prevent defeat at the next election,” he added.

The APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Segun Dipe, dismissed Fayose’s remarks, describing him as a political opportunist making unfounded claims for relevance.

“Fayose is merely seeking attention. His allegations are baseless. The people of Ekiti have witnessed the remarkable efforts of Governor Oyebanji and remain steadfast in their support,” Dipe said.

He maintained that the governor’s achievements were visible across the state and advised the PDP aspirant to engage with communities to understand the administration’s impact.

“It is unfortunate if he cannot recognise the ongoing progress. The people have already made up their minds, and Governor Oyebanji’s performance speaks for itself,” Dipe stated.
