Economic Summit: How Gov Hope Uzodimma brought the world to Imo State — Nwawuba

Imo State once again took centre stage on the global development map as Governor Hope Uzodimma hosted a high-powered Economic Summit that drew world leaders, international investors and regional stakeholders to Owerri.

Speaking on the significance of the event, Hon. Henry Nwawuba praised the governor for “bringing the world to Imo,” describing the summit as a turning point for the entire Southeast.

A Gathering of Global Heavyweights

The summit, which has quickly become one of the most talked-about economic events in recent Nigerian history, attracted an array of influential personalities. Former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, Africa’s foremost industrialist Aliko Dangote, and several governors across the federation were among the top figures who attended.

Hon. Nwawuba noted that such a distinguished guest list is “proof of Uzodimma’s rising stature as a national leader with international credibility.”

Uzodimma’s Rising Profile in the Southeast

Political observers say Governor Uzodimma’s profile has surged in the Southeast and entire Nigeria in recent months, driven by his strategic political alliances, governance style and growing influence within national leadership circles. His recent appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the South East Renewed Hope Ambassador underscores the confidence the presidency places in him to champion development and unity in the region.

Analysts believe this new role positions Uzodimma as one of the most prominent voices shaping the Southeast’s engagement with the federal government and the nation at large.

Second-Term Drive: Tackling Infrastructure and Power

Beyond politics, Uzodimma’s second term has been defined by a more aggressive push for infrastructural transformation. Hon. Nwawuba emphasized that the governor’s efforts to deliver an expansive road network, improve intra-state connectivity, and pursue 24-hour electricity availability in key economic zones have not received adequate media attention.

According to him, “Uzodimma is working harder in his second tenure than many realise. He is not just building roads; he is building a modern regional economy, a phenomenon not regular among Nigerian politicians in their second tenure.”

Policy analysts agree that if sustained, the combination of improved energy access and reliable transportation could reposition Imo as a competitive hub for manufacturing, logistics and technology in the Southeast.

A Governor Putting the Southeast Back on the Development Map

Hon. Nwawuba argues that Governor Uzodimma’s vision transcends Imo State, noting that his pursuit of large-scale infrastructure and regional economic cooperation is helping to restore the Southeast’s voice in Nigeria’s political and economic architecture.

“The Southeast needs champions who can bring investors, open up regional corridors and rebuild our collective confidence,” he said. “Uzodimma is proving to be one of those leaders.”

The Summit’s Larger Implications

Experts say the Economic Summit has sent a strong message: Imo State is open for business. With global figures like Ban Ki-moon and Boris Johnson participating, the event has elevated Imo’s visibility beyond Nigeria and signaled that the state is ready to engage with multinational partners, donor agencies and private investors.

The attendance of Dangote and other business icons further suggests that the economic conversation is shifting from political rhetoric to concrete investment prospects.

As Imo State continues to attract national and international attention, Hon. Nwawuba believes Governor Uzodimma’s leadership is ushering in a new era of development. From infrastructure expansion to national influence and global engagement, Uzodimma appears intent on leaving a legacy that extends beyond his tenure — one that repositions the Southeast as a strong, vibrant contributor to Nigeria’s growth.
