Djokovic Crashes Out Of Monte Carlo Masters In Second Round
Novak Djokovic suffered a heartbreaking 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Alejandro Tabilo to crash out of the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters in the second round on Wednesday.
The tennis legend struggled to find his bearings and suffered a second consecutive loss to Tabilo.
He followed up his victory on the last day of the Italian Open last year with another dominant performance against an out-of-sorts Djokovic.
Tabilo had endured a poor start to the season, winning just two matches, but he found his best form against the former world number one.
The Chilean became just the third player in history to face Djokovic at least twice and not lose to him, joining Marat Safin and Jiri Vesely in the famed category.
He admitted that it has been a tough start to the season.
Tabilo said, “It has been a tough year, so a little bit of the nerves were there. I remembered last time what I did well, and thankfully, I served well today, and it helped me a lot. It was an unreal match.”
Djokovic struggled badly on his forehand side, making 29 unforced errors in total.
The 37-year-old has now lost in his opening match three times at the last four tournaments, after early exits against Matteo Berrettini in Doha in February and Botic van de Zandschulp at Indian Wells in March.
Djokovic’s chase for a record 100th ATP title has suffered another setback after he lost to Jakub Mensik in the Miami Masters final.
Carlos Alcaraz earned a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over Francisco Cerundolo to set up a third-round meeting with Daniel Altmaier.
