Centre urges FCCPC, EFCC to probe alleged importation of dirty fuel

A civic group, the Centre for Accountability and Transparency, CAAT, has urged the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to thoroughly investigate reports alleging that adulterated petroleum products were imported into the country.

Reports had emerged that Matrix Oil allegedly imported the adulterated petroleum products from Malta into Nigeria.

The company had, however, debunked the claim, describing the reports as false and malicious.

But speaking on the matter, the convener of CAAT, Okwa Dan urged the FCCPC and EFCC to investigate the allegation properly due to negative effects the alleged bad fuel may have on Nigerians.

At a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the group urged the anti-graft agency to arrest and prosecute any individual involved in the alleged importation.

“We are calling on the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to arrest and prosecute every one of those that have committed the acts of economic sabotage and violated the international sanctions imposed on crude oil of Russian origin.

“We further invite the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to investigate Matrix Energy Limited since the dirty fuel it allegedly distributed in the country has caused harm to consumers in different forms including economic losses occasioned by damaged automobiles and generators,” Okwa added.
