In a bid to promote equitable representation, entrenchment of social justice and prohibition of discrimination against vulnerable groups, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, DIE, Commission bill has scaled second reading on the floor of the Ogun State House of Assembly.

Opening debate on the bill titled ‘H. B. No. 923/ OG/ 2025- The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission ( Establishment) Bill, 2025’, the sponsor, who is also the Deputy Speaker, Bolanle Ajayi, stated that the proposed legislation is meant to promote equitable representation, enforce social justice and eliminate discrimination against vulnerable groups across all sectors, thereby promoting equality, equality and development of all sectors and human resources.

Ajayi described the bill as a timely intervention to institutionalize inclusive governance and accelerate development in all endeavours.

Corroborating the Deputy Speaker, the Chief Whip, Omolola Bakare and the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye also noted that the bill was part of the commitment of the sponsors towards empowering persons living with disabilities, expanding access and reducing marginalisation of the physically challenged and other vulnerable groups.

Responding, the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide re-emphasised the need to address different areas of marginalisation of vulnerable groups and the less privileged in the society to promote gender mainstreaming and inclusion.

The Speaker noted that the nature of most public structures in the country put the disabled at the disadvantaged which needed to be addressed.

He thereafter referred the bill to the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development for further legislative actions.
