Bayern Munich’s star midfielder Jamal Musiala will be sidelined for an extended period after suffering a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle.
The German club officially confirmed the heartbreaking news on Sunday, July 6, following an incident during their quarterfinal match against Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The injury occurred during the first-half stoppage time of the match, which ended in a 2-0 loss for Bayern. Musiala went down in clear pain after a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma near the byline.
His left ankle appeared twisted at an unnatural angle, leaving him writhing in agony and requiring immediate medical attention. He was stretchered off the pitch and rushed to the hospital.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Bayern Munich confirmed that Musiala had suffered a fractured fibula due to the dislocation and would undergo surgery soon.
Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, expressed the club’s profound disappointment, stating:
”Musiala’s serious injury and long absence are a huge blow for the club and for all of us. Everyone knows how important he is to our game and the crucial role he plays in this team. On top of that, the personal impact of such an injury is heartbreaking—we all feel for him.”
Medical assessments suggest a 4–5 month recovery timeline post-surgery, with Musiala targeting a return to full fitness between November and December 2025.
His absence is expected to accelerate Bayern’s transfer activity, with the club likely pursuing players such as Nick Woltemade to reinforce attacking depth, while relying on Michael Olise, Kingsley Coman, and squad rotation to maintain competitive form.
