Bandits in Nigeria

By Wole Mosadomi

Minna — Bandits have once again attacked communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, reportedly killing at least 26 people, burning houses and a police station, and forcing residents to flee for their lives.

The first attack occurred on Friday in Feyi community, where armed men riding motorcycles stormed the village, shooting sporadically. Six people were killed during the raid as terrified villagers scrambled to escape.

According to a source from the community who spoke on condition of anonymity, the bandits then moved to Tungan Makeri and Nkpaso villages in Konkoso Ward during the early hours of Saturday.

During these attacks, they reportedly killed 20 more people and set the Pissa Police Station ablaze.

The source added that a military helicopter was later sighted approaching the affected communities, but no casualties were reported among the bandits.

These communities have faced repeated attacks in recent months, resulting in the loss of lives and property. Many residents have reportedly fled their homes to avoid further violence.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed the raid but reported only six deaths so far. Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP), stated: “On 14/2/2026 at about 6am, a report was received that around 3am, suspected bandits invaded Tunga-Makeri village via Shafachi district, Borgu LGA. Six persons lost their lives, some houses were set ablaze, and an undetermined number of persons were abducted.

The bandits reportedly moved to Konkoso village. Joint security teams have been mobilised to the scene to assess the situation and rescue victims.”

Security agencies continue to patrol the area as residents remain on high alert, while investigations into the full extent of the attack and abductions are ongoing.
