Assist Us With Information About Criminals, Kogi Govt Begs Indigenes
The Kogi State Government has appealed to residents, particularly those in rural areas, to support ongoing security efforts by providing credible intelligence that can lead to the arrest of criminal elements undermining peace and safety across the state.
The call was made by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, during a press briefing held in Lokoja on Tuesday.
Fanwo stressed the important role grassroots communities play in sustaining the state’s security achievements, while urging residents to take ownership of the fight against crime.
“Our security agencies are working tirelessly to keep our people safe, but they cannot do it alone. We are calling on our people, especially those in rural areas where some of these criminal elements hide, to assist with credible and timely information that will lead to their arrest,” Fanwo stated
Fanwo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to informant protection and assured residents that their identities would be kept confidential and their safety guaranteed.
He warned against shielding criminals, stating that silence and inaction only serve to embolden those who threaten public peace.
“Security is a collective responsibility. When we fail to speak out, we embolden the enemies of our peace. The Chief Servant of the State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has made security a top priority, and we must all join hands to consolidate on the progress made so far,” he said.
Fanwo also pointed to ongoing efforts by the Office of the State Security Adviser, led by Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), to strengthen community involvement in intelligence gathering.
He praised the professionalism and discretion with which the office handles sensitive information, calling it a model of trust and efficiency.
“The Office has handled Intel in the most professional and confidential way possible. We can only win the war when everyone in the society sees security as a general responsibility,” he noted.
The Commissioner, while reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy on criminality, warned that anyone found complicit, whether through action or inaction, would face the full weight of the law.
