Ohanaeze Youth Council Calls For Collective Defence Of Igboland

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the umbrella body of Igbo youth globally, has issued a powerful warning to past and present Igbo political office holders asking them to prepare for compulsory retirement in 2027.

In a fiery statement on Wednesday,June 18, 2025, the National President of OYC, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, declared that a “Political Tsunami” and “Ballot Revolution” is brewing across the Southeast, fueled by decades of frustration, insecurity, and economic decay.

“The time has come for a total overhaul of the leadership structure in Igboland. Since 1999, the region has been in the hands of political scavengers and vampires,” Igboayaka stated.

The Council decried the unwarranted killings and destruction of properties in the Southeast due to unchecked insecurity, placing responsibility on docile and disconnected political leaders.

According to OYC, over N9 trillion worth of Igbo businesses and properties have been lost since 2021, with more than 10,000 lives cut short, and 30,000 young people forced to flee their homeland.

“We are tired of recycled political failures who offer nothing but betrayal and silence,” Igboayaka emphasized. “This is not just politics, it is survival.”

Drawing inspiration from the 1929 Aba Women’s Resistance, the Council is calling on over 50 million Igbo youths, at home and abroad, to organize and mobilize for total political change.

The group also highlighted structural injustices, including, dilapidated roads and outdated rail projects, southeast’s exclusion from key national projects and lack of seaports and international airports.

They also said the systemic retrenchment of Igbo workers in CBN and other federal government agencies is condemnable.

OYC accuses Southeast politicians of enabling these injustices through silence or compromise, and promises 2027 will mark the end of their grip on power.

“We’re not waiting for another promise from Abuja. We will take our destiny into our own hands,” he said, calling for “100% political substitution.”

The Council urged youth leaders in communities to begin setting up defensive strategies to protect lives and properties, stating that no Igbo life should be wasted while waiting for federal condolences.

“Do not allow your governor or even President Tinubu to visit the scenes of your death. Rise and defend Alaigbo,” Igboayaka warned.
