The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship election.

INEC confirmed that two female governorship candidates and six female deputy governorship candidates will be contesting the November 8 poll.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

According to the Commission, the African Action Congress (AAC) and the National Rescue Movement (NRM) have nominated female candidates, while six other parties, Accord (A), All Progressives Congress (APC), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), Labour Party (LP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), are fielding female running mates.

However, no political party nominated a person with disability for the governorship race.

The list also reveals that the ages of the candidates range from 36 to 71 years.

A total of 16 political parties out of Nigeria’s 19 registered parties are participating in the election, having submitted the personal particulars of their candidates (Form EC9) by the deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025.

Following the withdrawal and substitution window allowed under Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) conducted a fresh primary to replace its governorship candidate.

Four parties, Accord (A), AAC, LP, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), also substituted their deputy governorship candidates before the June 2 deadline.

INEC stressed that no further withdrawal or replacement of candidates will be entertained except in the event of death, in accordance with Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act.

The electoral umpire said the full details of candidates, including their age, gender, party affiliation, and academic qualifications, have been uploaded on the Commission’s website and social media platforms.

Campaigns for the election are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, and end at midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025, as stipulated in Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act.

INEC reminded political parties and their supporters to adhere to the provisions of the law and warned against the use of abusive language, physical attacks, and destruction of campaign materials during rallies or meetings.

The Commission said all candidates must be granted fair and equal access to public facilities for campaigns, media appearances, and rallies.

It further reiterated that the use of incumbency to gain an unfair advantage is prohibited under Section 95(2) of the Electoral Act.
