Amusan Sets New Record To Win 100m Hurdles Diamond League

Nigeria’s Queen of the track, Tobi Amusan recorded a stunning performance to win the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday.

It was a record-breaking outing for Amusan, who stormed to a new meet record of 12.45 seconds to beat the previous record set in 12.51 seconds set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018.

The victory was Amusan’s first major victory of the season following a successive fourth-place finish at the Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond League meets in May.

Nadine Visser of the Netherlands came in second with 12.67s, while Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska followed in third at 12.69s.

The 28-year-old endured a difficult outing last year with a disappointing showing at the Olympics in Paris.

At the end of last season, Amusan started training with former Usain Bolt’s coach, Glen Mills, to improve her performances.

She credited her impressive victory to the new training routine under Mills.

Amusan said: “More hurdles practice, because I have been doing more sprinting. It was after the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills.”

South African sprinter Akani Simbine secured his third 100m Diamond League win of the year, storming to victory in 9.95 seconds.
