The Osun State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, has arrested six suspects across various towns in the state over allegations of housebreaking and theft, including the stealing of iron steel worth over N4.5m.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Corps spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, who revealed that three of the suspects were arrested in connection with the theft of industrial iron materials from a steel manufacturing company located in Ede.
According to the statement, the suspects, who are either staff or closely linked to the company, had conspired to divert steel materials over a period of time, and sold them at scrap value to a dealer in Sabo, Ede, for between N3,000 and N7,000, a fraction of the actual market value.
“Upon interrogation, one of the suspects confessed that this was not their first time. He admitted they had been stealing from the company for a long time before their latest attempt was thwarted during a surveillance operation,” Idowu said.
In a related development, another suspect from Ila-Orangun was arrested for allegedly breaking into a private residence and carting away household items, including a television set, generator, and iron rods.
The suspect told operatives he stole the items “to support himself.”
Also in Ile-Ife, a suspect linked to two separate theft incidents — iron steel theft at Eleweran and mobile phone theft at the Toll Gate area, was tracked down and arrested by Amotekun operatives following a complaint by a victim.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man from Osogbo was caught in the act of vandalising a newly constructed building within the Ede North Local Government Secretariat.
The suspect had broken windows and removed aluminium fabrications before being sighted by a resident, who promptly alerted the corps.
Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, commended his officers for their swift and coordinated responses to the incidents.
He urged residents to remain alert and continue to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
“Community vigilance is key to the success of our operations. We’ll continue to act swiftly to maintain safety and order across the state,” Omoyele said.
The spokesperson said the suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be handed over to appropriate authorities for prosecution.
