Lagos-State-Task-Force (1)

As part of its ongoing campaign to sanitize public spaces and eliminate criminal activities across the metropolis, the Lagos State government, through the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce, has arrested 44 individuals during a targeted clean-up and enforcement operation on Lagos Island.

The operation, which commenced at about 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, saw Task Force officials comb key areas including Falomo Bridge, Oyin Jolayemi, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ligali Ayorinde, Oniru Beach, and the 1004 Estate vicinity.

These locations were reportedly being occupied by criminal elements and street squatters, prompting the intervention.

According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the operation led to the arrest of 43 male and one female suspect believed to be contributing to the rising insecurity and environmental nuisance in the area.

“In continuation of the agency’s clean up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, the Lagos State Environmental Task Force team set out at about 2a.m during the wee hours on Thursday, 1st May, 2025 and embarked on its clean up enforcement operation on Lagos Island.

“The areas visited during the operation include; Falomo bridge, Oyin jolayemi, Eko Hotel roundabout, Ligali Ayorinde, Oniru Beach and 1004 areas where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.

“During the raid exercise, a total number of 43 male and 1 female suspects were arrested, and sanity was restored in all the areas,” Wahab stated on X.

He disclosed that all the suspects would be charged to court in accordance with the law.

THE WHISTLER reports that 71 suspects were arrested on Tuesday during a midnight raid.

The operation, which commenced at approximately 12:30 a.m., covered major parts of Lagos Island, including Victoria Island, Oniru, Ikoyi, Apongbon, and the Law School axis.

These areas had been flagged through the Task Force’s internal feedback mechanisms as hotspots for criminal activity, with reports of innocent residents and commuters being assaulted and robbed of their belongings.
