Police Unveil Security Strategy Ahead Ekiti Governorship Election

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced the strategic deployment of personnel and operational assets across Ekiti State ahead of the governorship election, as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process.

The disclosure was made in a media release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, in Abuja.

He said the Force remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, protecting electoral materials, and creating a secure environment for eligible voters to exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.

“I would like to inform you that the Nigerian Police Force intends to utilise a proactive and preventive model to ensure a peaceful election.

“Currently, the Inspector General of Police has deployed adequate personnel to cover polling units, collation centres, and other designated election facilities. We are going to provide physical security,” he said.

According to him, the police will remain neutral throughout the election, stressing that their allegiance is to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not to any political party or interest group.

“We will also provide personal security, as well as the security of information and events. It is an enormous task, but our neutrality mandate comes to mind at a time like this to ensure that our loyalty and allegiance are to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not to any political faction. The media also have a role to play in collaboration with the police,” he added.

The police spokesperson further revealed that the Force, alongside other security agencies, has activated the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security to ensure coordinated operations and a unified command structure during the election.

He also announced that there would be restrictions on movement on election day to enhance security and ensure the smooth conduct of the poll.

“I urge the good people of Ekiti State to rest assured that the Nigerian Police Force will provide a level playing field for all citizens to come out en masse and exercise their franchise peacefully,” he said.
