Abia Assembly Passes Road Maintenance Agency, Nine Others Into Law
No fewer than Ten bills were passed into law at the Abia State House of Assembly.
The ten legislative bills were sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon. Uchenna Okoro.
The bills, which aim to amend and strengthen various sectors of governance and public service in the state, were passed into law on Wednesday by Rt Hon. Austin Okezie who presided over the plenary.
The bills include H.A.B. 14. The Abia State Fire Service (Amendment No. 1) Bill, 2025.
H.A.B.15: The Abia State Ombudsman/Public Complaints and Citizens’ Right
Commission Bill, 2025; H.A.B. 16: The Abia State Roads Maintenance Agency(ABROMA) (Repeal) Bill, 2025; H.A.B. 17. The Abia Bureau of Public Procurement (Amendment No. 1) Bill,
2025; H.A.B. 18. The Abia State Orientation Agency (Amendment No. 1) Bill, 2025.
The rest are H.A.B. 19. The Abia State Basic Environmental (Amendment No. 2) Bill, 2025; H.A.B. 20. The Umuahia Capital Development Authority (Amendment No. 1) Bill, 2025; H.A.B. 21. The Abia State Physical Planning and Infrastructural Development Fund (Amendment No. 4) Bill, 2025; H.A.B. 22. The Abia State Estates Development Agency(ABSEDA) (Repeal) Bill, 2025; H.A.B. 26. The Abia State Homeland Security Agency Bill, 2025.
Speaking, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie (Deputy Speaker) explained that with the passage of the The Abia State Roads Maintenance Agency (Repealed) Law, that the agency has been incorporated under the ministry of works.
“We are very confident there is already an arrangement for most of these agencies.
“Before now, ABROMA ought to have operated under the Ministry of Works, so now a law has been made for them to be routed to the relevant Ministry,” he said.
Also speaking of The Abia State Estates Development Agency (Repealed), Okezie explained that they will have them incorporated under the Ministry of Lands, implying that all liabilities and assets have now been transferred to the Ministry of Lands.
These legislative efforts are part of the House’s commitment to reforming governance structures and improving service delivery across critical sectors in the state.
