Police in Lagos have arrested a 28-year-old ex-convict, Olayinka Oluwaseyi, for attempting to rob a motorist on Mile 12 Bridge in the early hours of Tuesday.

The suspect, who was armed with a knife, was apprehended around 1:30 a.m. by patrol officers from the Ketu Division.

His arrest was made possible through the timely intervention of the police team on night patrol. One other suspect involved in the attempted robbery managed to escape and is currently at large. Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing accomplice.

According to the spokesperson of the state Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, preliminary investigations revealed that Oluwaseyi had only recently been released from prison three months ago after serving time for a similar offence.

He is currently in custody and will be charged in court once investigations are completed.

“Patrol officers of Ketu Division have arrested one Olayinka Oluwaseyi ‘m’, aged 28, while attempting to rob a male motorist on Mile 12 Bridge. The suspect, who was armed with a knife, was arrested on May 13, 2025 at about 1:30 am.

“His swift arrest was made possible by the timely intervention of the patrol team. One other suspect involved in the attempted robbery is currently at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that Olayinka Oluwaseyi was released from prison three months ago for the same crime. He is currently in custody while investigations continue, with the suspect set to be arraigned once investigations are concluded,” Hundeyin said in a statement on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has praised the Ketu Division officers for their swift response and professionalism.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities, especially traffic-related robberies that endanger the lives and property of residents.

Jimoh further urged Lagosians to remain alert and cooperate with the police by reporting any suspicious movements or individuals.
