Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahia Ukwu ward 2 in Umuahia south local government area of Abia state on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest against alleged leadership irregularity in the party’s ward.

They accused the ward chairman, Chidi Avaja, of dictatorship.

The protesters who stormed the APC secretariat, Azikiwe Road, Umuahia with different placards said the alleged dictatorship in Ahia Ukwu won’t be sustained.

The protesters were seen carrying various inscriptions such as ‘Avaja must leave our party’, ‘Anti Party Should be suspended’.

They also added that ‘’Avaja has been suspended and the suspension must stand.”

They hold that they only recognise the Vice Chairman of the ward, Nwabueze, as the only recognised acting Chairman of Ahia Ukwu ward 2 which they also hold constitutional.

The protesters also claimed that the Abia State APC Chairman invited them for a meeting today (Wednesday April 30, 2025) and they have been waiting to be attended to for over an hour.

They complained of being intimidated by the deployment of police officers to the secretariat with the prospect of stalling their agitation.

Chidi Avaja was accused of anti party activities and said to be suspended by the party.

The protesters called on the national leadership of the APC to intervene in the crisis rocking the party’s ward level in Abia.
