AAUA staff member abducted in Ondo
A staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, Mr Omoniyi Eleyinmi, has reportedly been abducted by gunmen at his home in Supare-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Eleyinmi, who serves as the Faculty Officer in the Faculty of Education and is also a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, was kidnapped on Monday evening shortly after arriving from work.
According to a Save-Our-Soul message circulated by a senior academic at the university, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. along the Akungba-Supare road.
Eyewitnesses say the gunmen stormed the premises, firing gunshots into the air to disperse onlookers before taking Eleyinmi.
“One of our colleagues and SSANU members, Mr Omoniyi Eleyinmi, was abducted this evening at his residence in Supare-Akoko shortly after returning from work,” the university source confirmed.
Eleyinmi’s wife, who narrowly escaped harm, recounted that the assailants initially arrived when her husband was not home. However, they lingered around the premises, firing sporadically. He was abducted upon his return.
Efforts to get an official confirmation from the Ondo State Police Command were ongoing at the time of reporting.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he was not yet briefed on the matter but assured that details would be provided once available.
