68-Year-Old Rescued From Well In Oyo

The Oyo State Fire Service, at the weekend, said it rescued a 68-year-old man from a well and prevented a tanker explosion in the state.
Speaking in Ibadan on Sunday, the General Manager of the State Fire Services Agency, Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed that fire personnel were deployed early Sunday morning to Mobolorunduro Mosque at No. 30 Ajeigbe Street, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado, following a distress call reporting that someone had fallen into a well.
According to Akinyinka, the victim fell into the deep well while attempting to retrieve his phone.
“The firemen swiftly swung into action by tying all necessary knots and observing precautionary measures. The man was rescued alive and handed over to his family for proper care,” Akinyinka stated.
He attributed the incident to ignorance and lack of safety awareness, and warned the public to avoid dangerous activities without proper training or supervision.
In a separate incident on Saturday, the agency averted an explosion involving a trailer tanker loaded with 60,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) at Oremeji, along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
According to the agency’s control room, a distress call was received at 12:30 p.m., reporting that a HOWO trailer tanker with registration number KMC692ZE (Kano) had fallen and was leaking fuel after somersaulting into a road divider.
The General Manager explained that fire officers led by ACFS Adekola (Mrs) responded immediately, and applied AFFF chemical foam to contain the spill and prevent ignition.
“We briskly carpeted the spillage with AFFF chemical foam compound to suppress the flammability of the liquid which can trigger fire from naked fire,” Akinyinka said.
He attributed the accident to reckless driving, adding that while the tanker was badly damaged, no casualties were recorded.
He also praised the Agugu Division of the Nigerian Police and the Amotekun Corps from Ibadan North East LGA for providing security throughout the operation.
Akinyinka reiterated the agency’s commitment to prompt emergency response and called on residents to report emergencies early and practice safety consciousness at all times.
