Liverpool push to sign Yan Diomande before World Cup

Liverpool push to sign Yan Diomande before World Cup

Yan Diomande is at the centre of a growing transfer scramble, with Liverpool pushing hard to sign the RB Leipzig winger before the World Cup.

According to Sky Sports Germany, the Reds want to finalise a deal for the 19-year-old, though Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are also keen.

However, reports indicate that Leipzig are in no mood to let their prized talent go. The Bundesliga side are reportedly trying to keep Diomande and want to extend his contract, which already runs until 2030.

Liverpool’s interest is rooted in necessity. With Mohamed Salah departing Anfield this summer, the club have identified Diomande as a leading candidate to fill that void.

The Ivory Coast international has enjoyed a breakout season since arriving from Leganés, scoring 13 goals and registering 10 assists across all competitions.

Having featured mainly on the right flank, he profiles as a natural successor to Salah in Arne Slot’s side.

The complication is cost. With no release clause in his deal and Leipzig holding firm, widespread reports suggest the German club value Diomande at around €100m — a figure that would push Liverpool towards another club-record outlay.

PSG and Manchester City, the latter now under Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s exit, only sharpen the competition.

The timing matters, too. The 2026 World Cup begins on June 11, and Liverpool are said to want a resolution before the tournament takes hold.

For now, this remains an active pursuit rather than a done deal, with Leipzig’s resistance and the price tag the two biggest hurdles still to clear.
