Liverpool draw up plan to sign Dortmund's Daniel Svensson

Liverpool have placed Daniel Svensson firmly on their transfer agenda and drawn up a concrete plan to sign him, according to CaughtOffside.

The Reds face competition from Arsenal, however, setting up another possible battle between the Premier League rivals. Both clubs want to strengthen on the left of their defence.

Svensson’s versatility is central to his appeal. The Sweden international can operate as a left-back, wing-back or central midfielder, giving a manager several tactical options. His energy and willingness to step into midfield suit possession-focused sides.

Liverpool’s need at left-back is pressing. Andy Robertson left on a free transfer to Tottenham, and Andoni Iraola wants fresh competition for Milos Kerkez. Kostas Tsimikas has returned from a loan at Roma, but his future remains uncertain.

Arsenal’s interest stems from squad depth. The Gunners already have strong options at the position, but view Svensson’s flexibility as valuable across a demanding domestic and European season.

His rise in Germany has been rapid. Svensson joined Dortmund from Nordsjaelland, initially on loan in early 2025 before a permanent move, and has since made more than 60 appearances, contributing six goals and six assists.

🗣 Niko Kovac on reported LFC target Daniel Svensson:

“He’s a Duracell bunny. He reminds me a bit of Joshua Kimmich. He also plays every game and runs 12 or 13 kilometres. It’s the same distance in a different position, but it shows how tireless these guys are and how they march… pic.twitter.com/i5OejErFzt

Dortmund hold a strong negotiating position. Svensson’s contract runs until June 2029, meaning the Bundesliga club are under no pressure to sell cheaply. Previous reports valued him between €35m and €45m.

Growing competition could push the fee higher. With several clubs monitoring the situation, the overall package may climb closer to €50m. Dortmund’s record of demanding full value for their talent is well established.

The interest is not confined to England, either. AC Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid have all been linked, with Madrid eyeing him as a potential option at left-back. For now, though, the strongest interest appears to come from the Premier League.
