Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa has explained why he did not host the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), marking the first time he has stepped away from the role since the awards began in 2013.
Speaking on The Morayo Show, IK clarified that his absence was not due to any disagreement with Africa Magic but rather a decision guided by his personal convictions and beliefs.
“This year, I wasn’t destined to host this year. I strongly believe in where God has sent you to be and at the time they sent you to be,” he said.
The veteran broadcaster maintained that his relationship with Africa Magic remains strong.
“Africa Magic will always be my first love when it comes to media. At least with TV, we are in love with each other, they love me and I love them. So, there was no problem there.”
IK revealed that his decision was influenced by his stance on brand endorsements, noting that he does not associate with alcohol or tobacco-related brands, which were among the sponsors of the 2026 edition of the awards.
“I have a few principles that didn’t agree with that particular edition,” he said.
“I don’t endorse alcoholic brands or tobacco brands. So I wouldn’t have been able to serve properly in that particular edition.
“I won’t have effectively delivered what they needed.”
The media personality said he chose to step aside because he would not have been able to fully meet the expectations required of the role under those circumstances.
For the 12th edition of the AMVCA, organisers appointed Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as hosts.
