Nigerian actress, Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara in the Yoruba film industry, has died.
She passed away in the early hours of Thursday, according to a confirmation by her family.
The news was announced by her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, in a video message shared online, where he expressed the family’s gratitude for the support received from colleagues and members of the public during her illness.
He thanked the film community for their outpouring of goodwill and appealed to the public to stop sending financial assistance meant for her medical care.
“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.
“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”
Lasisi’s health challenges became public last week after fellow actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke appealed for support on her behalf.
Oshodi-Oke disclosed that the actress had been hospitalised in critical condition, dependent on an oxygen machine, and that her health continued to decline despite intensive medical care and the high cost of treatment.
