Laju Iren Films sets foe March 2026 cinema debut with ‘Onobiren’

By Ayo Onikoyi

Laju Iren Films has released the official teaser for Onobiren, its debut feature film set for nationwide cinema release on March 6, 2026. The production company also announced that tickets for the film will be available for preorder from January 30, signalling the start of its rollout to cinemas.

Onobiren, which translates to “woman” in the Itsekiri language, centres on themes of womanhood, faith and African identity. The film was written and executive produced by Laju Iren and directed by Famous Iraoya, known for Finding Nina. Principal photography was completed in Warri and Lagos, marking the company’s largest production to date.

Speaking on the project, Iren described Onobiren as deeply personal, noting that the story reflects her commitment to narratives that uplift women, celebrate supportive male figures and present Africa through a positive and authentic lens. She added that the scale of the production made it fitting as the company’s first release in traditional cinemas.

The film features an ensemble cast including Patience Ozokwo, Deyemi Okanlawon, Bisola Aiyeola, Ruby Akubueze, Chude Jideonwo and Desmond Bryce, among others. It was produced with support from Africa No Filter and CC Hub Creative Economy, organisations known for backing impactful African storytelling.

Following the teaser’s release, Onobiren has generated significant buzz on social media, drawing early praise from viewers. The film has also earned international recognition, with selections at Entertainment Week Africa and the London Lift Off Festival, further heightening anticipation ahead of its cinema debut.
