Wolves submit loan bid for England midfielder Gomes

Wolves have opened talks with Marseille over a loan deal for midfielder Angel Gomes.

The discussions are for a straight loan arrangement with no purchase clause, given Wolves’ precarious position in the Premier League table.

Gomes turned down interest from the Premier League last summer to join Marseille on a free transfer from French rivals Lille. He’s made 12 Ligue 1 starts for Marseille this season, scoring three goals.

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United had both been interested in signing the midfielder as a free agent.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, no agreement has been reached between the clubs but talks are active. Gomes has not played in English football since leaving Manchester United in 2020, taking in spells in Portugal and France.

The 25-year-old made his England debut in 2024 under interim manager Lee Carsley, but has not been selected since Thomas Tuchel took the job last year.

A move to the Premier League could place the midfielder in Tuchel’s sights ahead of the World Cup this summer.
