Liverpool and Spurs have reportedly begun talks on a potential deal for Andy Robertson in the January transfer window.

With his contract running out in the summer, the left-back is seeking more game time ahead of the FIFA World Cup this summer. Scotland qualified for the tournament last November.

The 31-year-old has made just four starts in the Premier League this season following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth last summer.

Liverpool enter Andy Robertson transfer talks with Spurs

The Athletic reported on Friday that Spurs are “working on a deal” to sign Robertson this month after deciding to act on their interest.

Tottenham had initially intended to come in for the full-back in the summer when he will be a free agent, but are moving now in order to “strengthen head coach Thomas Frank’s squad immediately”.

The report adds that “amicable negotiations between all parties are advancing”, with Sky Sports News also reporting that “preliminary talks” are underway.

Sky claim that the deal being discussed would be worth around £5 million and “an outcome is expected in the next few days”.

Liverpool will “consider” recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at AS Roma if the Robertson deal goes through.

Robertson would compete for minutes at Spurs with Destiny Udogie and teenager Souza, who joined the north London outfit from Santos this week. He has also been linked with a move to Celtic.

“It’s safe to say that I’ve done absolutely everything for this club in the last eight-and-a-half years and the club have been very good to me,” he said earlier this month when addressing his future at Anfield.

“They have rewarded me with new contracts when I’ve been playing well. When you do play well, you’re rewarding yourself as well.

“I’ve got five months left and we need to see what the options are to stay, if there’s options to go and things like that.

“I need to sit down with my family first and foremost to see what we want. After a bit of a stressful summer, I’ve just tried to enjoy being a part of it, being a Liverpool player, trying to qualify for a World Cup. Thankfully I’ve managed to do that.

“I need to speak to my family and see what we want going forward Then as soon as we make our mind up then we’ll let you know when the time is right.”
