Chelsea complete £40m Quenda signing from Sporting
Chelsea have completed the signing of Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth £40m.
The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on an eight-year contract, tying him to Stamford Bridge until 2034. He becomes the second arrival of Xabi Alonso’s reign, following full-back Marco Palestra.
The move has been a long time coming, though. Quenda actually agreed to join Chelsea back in March 2025, during Enzo Maresca’s spell in charge.
The clubs agreed to leave him in Lisbon for another season before completing the formalities this summer.

He arrives as one of European football’s brightest prospects. Quenda was named the Primeira Liga Young Player of the Season in 2024-25, helping Sporting to a league and cup double. He also became the youngest Portuguese player to score in the Champions League.
His versatility is a key attraction. Quenda can operate as a winger, an attacking midfielder or a wing-back, offering Alonso genuine tactical flexibility.

Left-footed and based on the right, his style has drawn comparisons with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.
The teenager could not hide his delight at the switch. “It feels great to be here,” Quenda told the club’s website.
“Chelsea is a great team and I am excited to play here at Stamford Bridge. The club has shown faith in players like me and I am proud to be here.”
He also set out his ambitions clearly. “I’m a very hard-working young person and I like to help my team,” he added. “I want to be someone known for having the right mentality and who does their best for the club to win trophies.”
His development owes much to Ruben Amorim. Quenda broke into the Sporting first team under the former Manchester United boss, making 86 appearances and thriving in his 3-4-2-1 system before this move.
The signing continues a busy window at Chelsea. Marc Cucurella has left for Real Madrid and Andrey Santos is set to join Manchester United, while Valentin Barco is reportedly poised to arrive from sister club Strasbourg.
