Arsenal ready second bid for Newcastle’s prized midfielder
Arsenal are preparing a second approach for Bruno Guimaraes, undeterred by Newcastle’s firm initial rebuff.
The Daily Mail reports the Gunners are readying an improved offer, though the Magpies’ stance is expected to remain unchanged. The champions have already tested the water.
An opening bid worth around £55m was knocked back, with Newcastle making clear their captain is not for sale. Arsenal, however, are pressing ahead regardless.

Mikel Arteta is the driving force. The Spaniard sees Guimaraes as the ideal addition to his midfield, valuing the Brazilian’s ball retention, composure and goal threat from deep. He is regarded internally as a top target.
Newcastle hold a strong hand, though. They are under no pressure to sell, with the Saudi-backed ownership in no need of the funds. Reports suggest they would demand close to £100m to even consider a sale.
The contract situation adds nuance. Guimaraes is tied to St James’ Park until 2028, meaning this summer represents one of Newcastle’s last chances to command a premium fee.

For now, that timeline still favours the Magpies. Crucially, the player has not pushed to leave.
Guimaraes has given no indication he wants out, and his stance could prove decisive. Eddie Howe has previously dismissed exit talk as disrespectful to a committed captain.
The move forms part of a wider Arsenal splurge. Having won the title and reached the Champions League final, the club are determined to strengthen rather than stand still.
They have already signed Piero Hincapie permanently and remain keen on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.
Guimaraes, meanwhile, is starring at the World Cup with Brazil, alongside Arsenal pair Gabriel and Gabriel Martinelli, with his displays only enhancing his value.
