Anthony Gordon to miss Arsenal game amid transfer rumours

Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on March 14, 2026 in London, England.

Anthony Gordon will miss Newcastle United’s trip to Arsenal this weekend with an injury as speculation over a potential summer transfer continues to swirl.

The winger has been sidelined by a hip flexor issue that ruled him out of last week’s defeat to Bournemouth at St. James’ Park.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game at the Emirates Stadium, Howe confirmed that Gordon won’t recover in time to face Arsenal.

“Anthony won’t make the game. He hasn’t trained this week,” he said.

“Again, not a serious injury, but not in time for this game. Hopefully the next one.”

Gordon’s future at Newcastle is uncertain amid reports he could leave this summer. Howe last week said that only players who are committed to the club will play, although he insisted the 25-year-old’s absence was due to injury.

Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with the England international in the past and could return for him this summer. But Bayern Munich have emerged as the favourites to sign him should the Magpies choose to sell.

Gordon is said to be open to joining the Bundesliga champions, where Three Lions teammate is currently thriving, while Newcastle are willing to listening to offers.

The asking price could be a major stumbling to completing a deal, however. Bayern reportedly value Gordon at around £55 million, but Newcastle will want at least £75 million for arguably their best attacker.

German football reporter Christian Falk says such a fee could be a bridge too far for Bayern, which may open the door for Liverpool to capture Gordon as they look to improve their options on the wings.
