Super Eagles and Sevilla centre-forward Akor Adams scored his first goal for the Spanish side in their 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano, Soccernet.ng reports.

Matias Almeyda’s side have had mixed form in the league this season, winning just two games before travelling to the Estadio de Vallecas.

Adams joined the seven-time UEFA Europa League winners from Montpellier in January, but multiple thigh injuries have hampered his development in Spain.

After eight games for Sevilla, the former SK Lillestrøm forward found the back of the net. After coming off the bench in the 69th minute, the 25-year-old latched onto a low cross from Jose Angel Carmona before squaring the ball home in the 87th minute.

With relief evident on his face after he scored his first goal in Sevilla’s colours, Adams’ joy also went into the locker room, as he shared his emotions after the game.

“Before talking about myself, I think it was a great game for the team, with a strong fight and a good mentality,” the former Songdal striker said in quotes revealed by Mundo Deportivo.

“I had the opportunity to come on, I was prepared and working hard, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.

“We didn’t give up. We have a top mentality in the group. The coach has confidence in what we can do, and it shows in the games,” he concluded.

Akor’s teammate, Gabriel Suazo, was delighted his side picked up three points following their disappointment against Villareal last time out.

“I’m very happy with the three points. We know it wasn’t our best game, but we showed attitude and didn’t give up.

“We knew it was going to be tough here; they’re tough, but we had attitude, courage, and heart, and that’s going to characterise Sevilla in every game.

“I’m happy with the welcome from my teammates because it feels like I’ve been playing here my whole life.

“The only way I can thank them is to work my butt off for them and the fans.

“We’re looking forward to that home win and are working our hardest to make it happen. I’m convinced it will come sooner rather than later,” the Chilean concluded.

Up next for Los Rojiblancos is a home game against the reigning La Liga Champions, Barcelona.
