We showed our personality, made history against England – Senegal defender, Koulibaly
Salidou Koulibaly, the captain of the Senegalese national football team, has said that his side showed personality and made history against England following their 3-1 friendly win on Tuesday night.
The former Chelsea and Napoli defender also related victory against the Three Lions to Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, triumph in 2022.
Recall that England captain Harry Kane gave Thomas Tuchel’s side the lead in the seven minutes of the encounter at City Ground.
However, Senegal equalized a few minutes later, thanks to Ismaila Sarr’s goal.
The West African giants later extended their lead in the second-half, thanks to goals from Habib Diarra and Cheikh Sabaly.
“Fantastic night. It was a tough game, but we showed our personality and showed we can play at this level,” Koulibaly told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“We aren’t used to making history and we made it when we won [the 2022] AFCON and we made it tonight.
“We want to continue writing the story of Senegal. We wanted to show we have a good nation.”
The win against England means Senegal becomes the first-ever Africa country to beat the English team in the game.
