Vincent Kompany in hospital after collapsing at Bayern Munich training ground
Vincent Kompany was taken to hospital after collapsing at Bayern Munich’s training ground on Friday.
A statement from Bayern read: ‘Vincent Kompany collapsed during training with FC Bayern Amateurs on Friday and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
‘The first-team coach had been watching the reserve squad’s session. Kompany will undergo a thorough examination and remain under medical care. His coaching staff will manage training and match operations until further notice.’
Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, said: ‘Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure his speedy recovery.

‘Vinnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, and all the time he needs. His coaching team, in whom we have complete confidence, will take over his duties. Everyone at FC Bayern wishes Vinnie a speedy recovery.’
Kompany has been suffering from a viral infection since last week and was a doubt to be on the touchline for Bayern’s Champions League game against Arsenal on Wednesday evening after missing his side’s final training session the day before.
The former Manchester City captain, who won four Premier League titles during his time in England, was well enough to be in the dugout for the game at the Allianz Arena as Bayern drew 2-2 with Arsenal.
‘I’m doing better,’ Kompany said after the game.
‘As a coach, you want to do everything by yourself. I caught a pretty nasty virus last week. I didn’t listen to my body and at some point my body told me: ‘Stop now, man!’. That was it. Now I’m feeling better, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.’
Bayern’s assistant coach, Aaron Danks, spoke to the media in Kompany’s absence on Tuesday and said: ‘It has affected his legs at times and he’s felt some pain.
‘It’s just a virus. The doctors, the experts, know way more than I do. The most important thing we’ve just encouraged is that he rests, he takes the time he needs, whatever that may be, however long that may be.
‘Whether that’s tomorrow or whether that’s two, three days’ time, I don’t know at this moment. Getting Vince to rest is a challenge.’
Bayern travel to Freiburg in their next Bundesliga game on Sunday afternoon.
