UEFA Champions League: Referee faces ban after threatening to kill player
Referee Fabio Maresca has been removed from Champions League duties after allegedly threatening to kill a player.
This happened in a game between Kuwait SC and Al-Arabi.
According to Corriere della Sera, Maresca clashed with Khaled Al Murshed after the player bumped into him.
Maresca did not consider it to be an accident.
An Al Arabi board member, Adnan Abdul, claimed Maresca said he would “kill the player”.
Maresca was expected to be fourth official for the fixtures between PSV and Sporting CP.
But he was replaced by Daniele Doveri. Referee Marco Guida took charge of the match and was assisted by Ciro Carbone and Giorgio Peretti.
Maresca also appears at risk of being banned for one month from taking charge of Serie A matches.
