UCL: They weren’t the best – Galtier slams his PSG team with Messi, Neymar, Mbappe

Former Paris Saint-Germain player, Christophe Galtier, has slammed Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe, over their performances while at the French capital city club.

The superstars did not represent the club as they should have and that was the reason the Ligue1 giants never won the Champions League as they, according to him, did not work well together.

The Frenchman, 58, pointed out that having a set of world class players does not guarantee having the best team and winning trophies.

Galtier told O Jogo that the current PSG team being managed by Luis Enrique, is a team indeed with players who are dedicated and play wholeheartedly for the club.

PSG beat Italian Serie A giants, Inter Milan 5-0 on Saturday to claim their first ever UEFA Champions League trophy in their 54 years of existence.

Former PSG boss, Galtier said he had the best players in the world in his team from 2022-23, but his team was not anywhere near the best.

He said, “From what I knew, I certainly had the best players in the world, but the best players in the world, together, don’t make a team.

“What stands out today is an impressive team, with the ability to run many kilometers at high intensity.”

“There is this ability to see everyone attacking and defending. There are, at the same time, movements within the game, but also many changes in zone, speed, and percussions in the offensive plan… It’s a very modern team,” he said of Enrique’s team that completed the quadruple on Saturday night being only the second side to have done so since the 1966-67 season.

Galtier had Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe in his side for one season before leaving the club in 2023 after winning the Ligue 1 title and the Trophée des Champions.

Goals from Achraf Hakimi, Desire Doue(2), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Senny Mayulu ensured the French side became European champions at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

DAILY POST reports that Mbappe left the French side for Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 a year after Messi and Neymar had left.

PSG reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2020, but lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
