President of Saudi Pro League side, Al-Hilal, Bin Nafal has opened up on why the club failed to sign the likes of Al Nassr superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes.
Al Hilal wanted to sign some top players, including the legendary Ronaldo, Nigerian attacker, Victor Osimhen and Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
After signing Simone Inzaghi from Inter Milan, the Saudi side needed to boost the squad ahead of the tournament.
Ronaldo will become a free agent at the end of this month and he has not signed a new deal with Al Nassr yet and Al Hilal wanted to capitalise on that.
He was tipped to sign a short-term deal with Al-Hilal just to play in the FIFA Club World Cup but the move never materialized.
Al Hilal also tried to sign Fernandes, Theo Hernandez, and Osimhen but none materialised.
As quoted by Goal, Bin Nafal blamed the failure to secure the services of the top players to a lack time and unrealistic demands by players.
“We’ve spoken with many players, but they want to go on vacation after a long season. We tried to sign several players before the World Cup, but were unsuccessful due to lack of time and faced illogical offers,” said Bin Nafal.
