Transfer: Chelsea star, Felix says he wants to return to former club

Chelsea attacker, Joao Felix, has said he was ready to leave the club and return to his former side, Benfica.

The Portuguese joined Chelsea on a permanent deal from Atletico Madrid last summer but has struggled to make an impact.

He played 40 games for the Blues across competitions, and scored 11 goals and made two assists.

The former Atletico man returned to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season after playing last season on loan at AC Milan but did not make the Blues’ team for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Felix’s contract at Stamford Bridge lasts till 2031, but it appears he has no future at the west London side.

Football Transfers reports that the Portugal midfielder Felix said he wants to go back to Benfica.

He told Correio de Mahna, “With Bruno Lage being the coach, who I know and who was important for my career, he influences my decision, and I would be very happy about returning to Benfica.

“And that is probably where I am most inclined [to go]. I feel that I need to be at home, and that is why Benfica is one of the ideas that I have in mind.”
