Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reacted to Enyimba Football Club of Aba’s 3-2 win over Bendel Insurance in the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL, on Sunday.

The Peoples Elephants came from a goal down to beat Bendel Insurance of Benin 3-2 in Aba.

Goals in the 18th, 66th and 69th minutes by Abiodun Joseph, Kalu Nweke and Chidera Michael secured maximum points for Enyimba.

Insurance took the lead in the 2nd minute, temporarily silencing the vociferous Aba crowd.

But Enyimba, backed by the presence of Governor Alex Otti, some members of his cabinet and a large home crowd, fought back and equalised in the 18th minute through Abiodun Joseph.

Insurance retook the lead in the 59th minute before Enyimba levelled again in the 66th minute, when Kalu Nweke scored from the spot.

The turning point came for Enyimba in the 69th minute when Chidera Michael fired home the winning goal.

The victory has taken Enyimba to the top of the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL table with 11 points from five matches.

Otti wrote on X, “I had the pleasure of attending the thrilling Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter between Enyimba Football Club of Aba and Bendel Insurance of Benin. In a match that tested resilience and character, Enyimba came from behind twice to secure a well-deserved victory, claiming all three points and rising to the top of the NPFL table.

“During halftime, I joined the team in the dressing room to offer words of encouragement. Our boys responded with heart and determination, giving a remarkable account of themselves and ultimately emerging victorious.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our teeming fans who turned out in large numbers to support our team. Your energy electrified the stadium in a good way. With your unwavering support, Enyimba truly lived up to its name as the People’s Elephant.

“I also wish to acknowledge our guests, Bendel Insurance, who displayed commendable courage and sportsmanship throughout the match.

“Special thanks to the coaching crew, the entire Enyimba FC board, and its distinguished chairman, Kanu Nwankwo (Papillo), for their leadership and commitment to excellence.

“Today, Enyimba FC showcased the true “can-do” spirit of our people. On and off the pitch, we continue to prove that with unity and belief, greatness is always within reach.”
