Market value: Super Eagles star suffers biggest Bundesliga blow as Bayern Munich, Dortmund stars soar

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has suffered the biggest market value drop in the Bundesliga, according to the latest update by respected football statistics site Transfermarkt, Soccernet.ng reports.

Once valued at €40 million, Boniface’s worth has now plummeted to €20 million, following a disappointing few months both at club and international level.

The striker’s summer unravelled after a failed multimillion euro transfer to AC Milan, where he reportedly failed his medical.

Eventually loaned out to Werder Bremen, Boniface has yet to score his first goal for his new club.

Things haven’t been brighter on the international stage either. Since Eric Chelle took charge of the Super Eagles, Boniface has been left on the fringes.

The Nigerian coach left him out of the World Cup qualifiers in September and October, choosing instead to rely on Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and Terem Moffi as backups to star striker Victor Osimhen.

Nigeria, who narrowly missed direct qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will enter the playoffs in November.

Boniface will be desperate to rediscover his form before the Super Eagles face Gabon in their crucial semi-final tie on November 13.

Other Nigerian players in the Bundesliga – Nathan Tella (€15m), Felix Agu (€8m), Jordan Torunarigha (€4m), and Kevin Akpoguma (€2.5m) – saw no change in their valuations.

Musiala and Olise lead Bundesliga surge as Bayern, Dortmund stars shine

While Boniface’s stock has fallen, the latest market value update brought plenty of good news elsewhere, especially for Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund stars.

Bayern’s Jamal Musiala, unchanged at €140 million, now sits alone at the top of the Bundesliga value rankings following Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool. His teammate Michael Olise enjoyed a huge leap, rising €30 million to €130 million, as continues to grow his status as one of the league’s brightest young wingers.

Remarkably, both Musiala and Olise have Nigerian roots.

Elsewhere, Dayot Upamecano’s value increased by 20% to €60 million, while teenage sensation Lennart Karl enjoyed a staggering 1233% jump, from €1.5 million to €20 million, making him the most valuable player born in 2008.

At Dortmund, the revival under Niko Kovac continues to pay dividends. Having lifted the club from mid-table mediocrity to a top-four finish, Kovac’s side have started the new season strongly, with four wins and two draws.

As a result, several Dortmund players – including Felix Nmecha (+€7m to €35m), Jobe Bellingham (+€8m to €30m), Carney Chukwuemeka (+€2m to €20m), and Karim Adeyemi (+€15m to €60m) – all saw significant value boosts.

Notably, Adeyemi, Nmecha, and Chukwuemeka are of Nigerian descent, though only the latter remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles.

In total, 148 Bundesliga players had their values updated, but none experienced a bigger fall than Boniface.
