Luis Castro slams Erik ten Hag over treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo

Former Al-Nassr manager, Luis Castro, has slammed former Manchester United head coach, Erik ten Hag, over his approach to managing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Castro and Ronaldo spent time together at Al Nassr, enjoying a fine relationship.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Castro said he does not see any reason why Ten Hag failed to find a place for Ronaldo in his XI at Old Trafford.

The 65-year-old tactician said his tactics while at Al Nassr were tailored to get the best out of each player.

“We look at each player and we adjust things. We adjust according to their identity,” he said.

“That is exactly what I do – with Cristiano and with everyone else. That is my duty as a leader, as a coach.

“I cannot stick rigidly to a tactical system and refuse to change.”

Ronaldo suffered humiliation while playing for the Red Devils under Ten Hag who would at some point decide to drop him on the bench.

The player’s fight with the manager as a result of not featuring him in games led to his being deemed unable to fit into the plans of the Dutchman at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag, a former Ajax boss, was of the believe that Ronaldo was too old and could not press.

Ronaldo left Manchester United in 2022 after his contract was terminated by mutual consent following a breakdown of their relationship.
