The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two persons suspected to be part of a motorcycle theft syndicate operating across state lines.

The arrests were made following a well-coordinated raid by security operatives, leading to the recovery of three stolen motorcycles in different parts of Akko Local Government Area.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the operation was triggered by a vital tip from a concerned citizen.

“On July 7, 2025, at about 12:00hrs, operatives of Operation Hattara led by CSP Ali Madawaki acted on credible intelligence received from a Good Samaritan,” Abdullahi stated.

According to the police, the team stormed a suspected criminal hideout at Tudun Hayin Kwarai, Misau, within Akko LGA, where two suspects were arrested.

They were identified as Misba’u Adamu, 25, from Alkaleri LGA in Bauchi State, and Adamu Ibrahim, 28, from Garko LGA in Kano State.

The duo reportedly confessed to burgling the home of one Mohammed Usman in Hayin Kwarin-Misau during the early hours of July 6, stealing two motorcycles in the process.

“They admitted to stealing two motorcycles, a Qlink Cassie with registration number ABC 484 WN, and a Hero Hunter with registration number GME 36 QL,” Abdullahi said. “The total value of the stolen items is estimated at ₦1.8 million.”

Investigators traced the stolen motorcycles to the premises of one Babangida (surname yet to be identified), where the bikes were hidden.

While the suspects remain in custody, police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the gang’s leader and other accomplices still on the run. They will face charges in court once investigations are concluded.

In a separate incident, another motorcycle was recovered by police officers during a routine night patrol in the Wuro Birji area of Akko LGA.

“At about 1:00am on the same day, a patrol team sighted an individual riding a black Jincheng Kasea motorcycle with registration number DKU 099 UK.

“The suspect, upon spotting the team, abandoned the motorcycle and fled,” Abdullahi said.

Although the fleeing suspect managed to evade arrest, the motorcycle is now in police custody. Authorities are working to identify the suspect and reunite the recovered bike with its rightful owner.

Abdullahi encouraged residents to continue supporting security efforts by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.

“The Gombe State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property. We call on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities in their communities,” he added.
