Liverpool to face Newcastle in Carabao Cup final

Liverpool will now face Newcastle United in this year’s Carabao Cup final.

The Reds booked their spot with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Ange Postecoglou’s side at Anfield on Thursday night.

Spurs had edged the first leg 1-0 in North London, with Berge grabbing a late winner.

The first half of the reverse fixture ended goalless, with the hosts unable to carve out clear-cut chances.

But the floodgates were opened after Cody Gakpo put Liverpool ahead with a snapshot.

Mohamed Salah then doubled their advantage from the penalty spot after Gakpo was fouled in the area.

Dominik Szobozslai put the tie beyond doubt with a composed finish, before captain Virgil van Dijk headed in a fourth.

On Wednesday night, Newcastle beat Arsenal 2-0 at St James Park, after winning the first leg by the same scoreline.

The final will be played on March 16.
