LaLiga: Real Madrid react as Barcelona clinch title after 2-0 win at Espanyol
Real Madrid have congratulated Barcelona after their eternal rivals were confirmed LaLiga winners on Thursday night.
Barca beat Espanyol 2-0, thanks to goals from Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez, to displace Los Blancos as the champions.
In a terse tweet after the match, Madrid’s official X handle wrote: “Congratulations to @FCBarcelona on their 2024–2025 LaLiga title.”
The win means Real Madrid cannot catch Barca at the top of the table, as they are now seven points clear with two fixtures left.
Hansi Flick’s men have now completed a superb domestic treble.
Barcelona could have sealed their title triumph on Wednesday night, but Madrid netted a 95th-minute winner against Mallorca to delay the inevitable.
The Catalans also beat Carlo Ancelotti’s men to the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup this campaign.
