Gateway Games: National Sports Commission commends quality of play in handball

The Director General, National Sports Commission, NSC, Bukola Olopade, has commended the quality of play in the handball event of the ongoing National Sports Festival, saying the players displayed integrity, maturity and exhibited the spirit of fair play.

Olopade stated this after watching the men handball match between Lagos State and Sokoto state held at the Ake Sports Complex, Abeokuta on Monday.

The Sports Festival commenced on May 16 and to end on May 30.

Speaking at the games tagged “Gateway Games 2024”, the Director General lauded the quality of play so far by the handball players, stressing that the standard of the game had improved tremendously.

Olopade said, “The players displayed integrity and maturity while they also exhibited the spirit of fair play.

“The expectations of the festival is already high, a world class opening ceremony that has become a reference point to every athletes and spectators.

” We have very good facilities across board, we expect natural talents to excel.

He disclosed that all the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, are all on ground for the tournament, saying that Benue was the last state to arrive.

DAILY POST reports that the results of day one of the men handball match are, Kano 24 Niger 25, Lagos 25 vs Sokoto 24 and Edo walked over Enugu.
