FIFACWC: ‘He’s best in the world’ – Maresca hails Caicedo

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, has singled out the club’s midfielder, Moises Caicedo, for praise ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup game against Flamengo.

The Italian hailed the midfielder’s versatility and work ethic, adding that the player can fit into every position on the pitch except, perhaps, in goal.

Caicedo joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023. He has gone on to cement his place in the Blues’ team.

The Equadorian was the only Blues star to start all 38 Premier League matches for the west London side during the 2024/25 season.

Maresca has used Caicedo, who is originally a defensive midfielder, in advanced midfield roles and even at right back.

In whichever position the midfielder has impressed and put up standout performances.

Chelsea will play Flamengo in their second game of this year’s Club World Cup and during his pre-match press conference, Maresca spoke highly of the 23-year-old.

The former Leicester City boss said, via Hayters, “For me he is good everywhere, apart from maybe as a goalkeeper.

“We are very, very happy with Moises and him playing as a defensive midfielder because at this moment he is the best or one of the best in the world.”

Caicedo also put himself above others in his position as the Premier League’s most effective ball-winners.
