EPL: Real reason Amorim doesn’t want to start Mainoo – Ex-Man Utd defender Jones

Phil Jones, former Manchester United defender, has explained why manager Ruben Amorim doesn’t want to start midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in his starting XI.

Amorim is yet to play Mainoo in the Premier League this season.

The England international was an unused substitute in Man United’s Premier League fixtures against Arsenal and Fulham.

“If they [Mainoo and Fernandes] play together it will be due to an injury,” Jones told Metro UK.

“I don’t think the manager likes having them play together for the reason I mentioned earlier — both of them are not the most mobile.

“Kobbie is sharp and strong, but over a 90-minute game, that is where the manager is looking and saying we might need someone else.”
