Former Liverpool player, Danny Murphy has urged Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim to prevent the club from selling midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo has been linked with a move away from Man United in the upcoming summer transfer window due to the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules, PSR.
However, Murphy wants Amorim to talk to the club’s chiefs to keep Mainoo at Old Trafford beyond the summer.
According to him, the England international is talented and he is capable of making great impact for the Red Devils in many years to come.
In his column for the Daily Mail, Murphy also said that Amorim needs to trust the 20-year-old with the defensive role and allow him play deeper.
Murphy said, “I don’t see what [Ruben] Amorim sees when it comes to [Kobbie] Mainoo. I think Mainoo is more than capable of playing that defensive role, he just needs some help, leadership and guidance around him,” Murphy said.
“I understand the rumors around him and Alejandro Garnacho needing to be sold for PSR reasons but the equation is simple: are United blessed with an abundance of talented midfielders? No.”
He continued, “Mainoo and Garnacho are two talented, hungry players capable of having a big impact for United over the next five years or more, whether that is under Amorim or any other manager.
“If I was Amorim, I would be talking to Mainoo, talking to my bosses, and making sure he stayed. I would still be shocked to see him leave in the summer.”
