EPL: Arsenal submit opening bid to Sporting for Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal have submitted an opening bid of €75 million to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres.
The Gunners have made the signing of a new forward one of their top priorities in this summer’s transfer window, with Gyökeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško at the top of their shortlist.
Gyökeres has been one of the most in-form strikers in Europe this season.
The Swede has scored 52 goals in 49 appearances for Sporting this campaign.
According to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, Mikel Arteta’s side have tabled an initial bid of €75 million for Gyökeres, and the North London club have already agreed personal terms with the 26-year-old.
The report adds that Sporting are holding out for a better offer and are hoping for rival interest from other clubs to drive up the price.
Gyökeres has a €100 million (£84.7 million) release clause in his contract with the Portuguese side.
