Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has claimed that Victor Osimhen was not invited for the Unity Cup and the friendly match against Russia, because he needs time to sort out his future.
Osimhen is Nigeria’s first-choice striker and has scored 26 international goals in 41 games.
However, despite an impressive loan spell with Galatasaray, the 26-year-old was left out of Chelle’s squad for the recent games.
The Turkish season was still on during the Unity Cup, but several fans expected Osimhen to be available for the game against Russia on June 6.
However, Chelle has revealed that he excused Osimhen due to his complicated transfer situation.
“Victor (Osimhen) is, for me, the best striker in the world,” Chelle told BBC Sport Africa.
“For him, it is difficult to come for this game because he played a season with a lot of pressure.
“The reality is, there is a transfer window. During this time, a player like him is not focused at 100%.”
